insular carcinoma of the thyroid

an extremely rare tumor

Insular thyroid carcinoma is an extremely rare tumor (4% of cases) with a poor prognosis and an intermediate malignancy between that of differentiated and anaplastic cancers with a potential frequency of recurrence.

Here is the case of a 47-year-old patient with a thyroid nodule in the left lobe discovered on palpation.

cytopuncture performed:

3 cytopunctures with aspiration: macroscopically transparent sample liquid

conclusion of the cytology: papillae without a characteristic papillary nucleus but suspected of papillary carcinoma (category 5 of BETHESDA).
