Thyroid cancer - Radiofrequency - Puncture - Diagnosis - Treatment

52-year-old patient with a thyroid nodule in the right lobe known since 2012, benign on cytology; measuring 0.66 cc (16 x 7.3 x 10.9 mm) of isoechoic mixed echostructure consistent with an EU TIRADS 3 score.

Appearance of biological hyperthyroidism (TSH 0.10) with cervical discomfort, weight loss.
The scan shows:
A non-extinguishing hot nodule in the lower third of the right lobe.

Therapeutic options:

Surgery (lobectomy).
-
ARI therapy.
-
Radiofrequency thermoablation.
The patient chooses theradiofrequency thermoablation.

Biological control 3 months after RF shows a normalization of TSH 0.87 and confirmed at 6 months after RF (0.93).
Ultrasound control 3 months post RF shows a volumetric decrease of 93%.

The follow-up scintigraphy, 6 months after RF, shows regression of the non-extinctive hot nodule in the lower third of the right lobe.
